ABOUT WELLNES….  By Dr. Ro

As a physician, I have found many people are confused by medical words, so, this quarter I am going to differentiate two words, ACUTE & CHRONIC.

Our wellness can be interrupted by an “acute” illness or injury.  “Acute” meaning
“right now, or in the recent past”  An acute illness or injury happens, hopefully we get better within days or several weeks, and then we move on.

A “chronic” illness or injury, however, lingers on, past 12 weeks and may or may not completely heal.  For example, diabetes, hepatitis, HIV, repetitive stress disorder, tendonosis, low back pain, traumatic brain injury,  just to name a few.

Think of “acute” as short term, and “chronic” as long term.
Both illnesses &/or injuries interrupt our usual wellness and offers us opportunities to explore ourselves on our journey back to wellness.
Aloha!
